It is in response to his own directive to local government units (LGUs) to maximize the use of their Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) and allocate up to 100 percent of the funds for rice distribution to their constituents.
On Monday, April 27, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the rice distribution activity in Roxas City, Capiz, where farmers and vulnerable sectors benefitted as part of the government’s bid to help communities cope with the effects of rising food and fuel prices.
A total of 500 beneficiaries received 10 kilograms of rice each during the event, and of that count, 300 were farmers from Barangays Bolo, Bato, Bago, and Milibili.
The remaining 200 beneficiaries, meanwhile, came from multi-sectoral groups, including persons with disabilities (PWDs) and solo parents from Barangay Milibili.
President Marcos earlier said that the rice distribution, which kicked off in the City of Manila, will be conducted six times within the year. After that, during a recent event in Batangas, the President announced plans to increase funding for the LGSF, provided the allocations are managed and utilized efficiently by local government executives.
First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos was also present during the distribution, reported the Palace.
The move also follows a similar activity last week, where Marcos personally oversaw the distribution of 10 kilos of rice to 100 ambulant or small-scale vendors in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija Last Thursday, April 23.
During that event, President Marcos took time to personally engage with the beneficiaries.
That rice distribution activity was also made possible through the Local Government Support Fund-Growth Equity Fund (LGSF-GEF), according to Palayan City Mayor Viandrei Nicole Cuevas.
