He has departed the company after more than a decade.
In a statement published on Weverse, Korean management company SM Entertainment announced that it has ended its ties with rapper Lucas, whose contract with them officially expired on Friday, August 24.
“We would like to sincerely thank all fans for your continued love and support for Lucas,” the company opened its letter. “We hereby inform you that the exclusive contract with Lucas has concluded as of April 24.“
The company then said that they will “cherish” the time that they spent with him all the way from his time as a trainee and eventually becoming part of numerous projects, such as NCT, WayV, SuperM, and as a soloist.
“We will cherish every moment shared, from the early trainee days to the various activities Lucas took part in after his debut, and continue to support him as he begins this new chapter,” they said.
Lastly, they asked fans to continue supporting Lucas on his new journey “with encouragement.”
Lucas, born Wong Yuk-hei, began training in 2015 and was introduced as part of SM Rookies in 2017. He would eventually join the official lineup of the mega boy band NCT in 2018, becoming part of NCT 127 and the Chinese group WayV.
He would also be included in SuperM in 2019, which brought together the top male idols of the company at the time, including Taemin of SHINee, Baekhyun and Kai of EXO, as well as then-fellow NCT members Taeyong, Ten, and Mark.
Following a controversy, Lucas took an indefinite hiatus in 2021, before officially leaving NCT and WayV two years later to become a solo act.
In 2024, he dropped his debut album entitled Renegade.
