Alex Eala leaps to number 31 in latest WTA global rankings

As the new week started, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) also released its fresh rankings for its global indices on Monday, February 23.

In the singles category, Filipina sensation Alex Eala was able to make another feat both for herself and all Filipinos in the said sport.

This, as the 20-year-old landed on the 31st spot, 16 places higher than her number 47 placement the week prior. This new career-high also bests her previous record of world no. 40 earlier in February.

The latest rankings of the WTA also comes out days after her participation in the Dubai Duty Free (DDF) Tennis Championships in the United Arab Emirates, where she was able to last until the quarterfinals round of the WTA 1000 tournament before exiting following her lost to Coco Gauff.

Although, she made a remarkable performance in DDF, as she was able to win over current world number 7, Jasmine Paolini, in the Round of 32.

Currently, Eala is on a break as she prepares for the next two major games on her calendar, which are the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, scheduled from March 4 to 15, and the Miami Open, which will take place from March 17 to 29 in the USA.

Eala is expected to compete in the main draw of both tourneys.
