Blackpink becomes first K-pop group to reach 100 million subscribers on YouTube

On Saturday, February 21 (Manila time), video sharing platform YouTube shared on its social media pages the latest recipient of its prestigious Red Diamond Creator Award, which is given to channels that have reached the 100 million subscribers mark.

The said plaque went to Korean pop girl group Blackpink, who is also the first artist channel to reach the said milestone.

In its social media post, the official YouTube account said, “BLINKs, you did it! A massive congratulations to BLACKPINK for reaching 100 MILLION subscribers on YouTube!”

Following that, the quartet, composed of Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, Lisa, took to their YouTube channel to celebrate.

Jisoo opened the clip emphasizing how they are the first artist to get the coveted plaque, which Jennie followed with a message of gratitude.

“We would like to thank everyone who has always shown interest in our music and supported us with so much love,” she said. “We’re especially happy that we achieved this incredible record together with Blinks.”

Rosé then told, “This milestone is especially meaningful as we are the first official artist channel to reach 100 million subscribers on YouTube.”

Lisa then thanked YouTube for the support and “for creating a space to connect” with their fans around the world. “Most of all, thank you BLINKs for watching, listening, and growing with us every step of the way. We wouldn’t be here without you.”

This latest feat comes a few days before the release of their much-anticipated third mini-album, Deadline, which will come out on Friday, February 27.
