Last Wednesday, actor-singer Khalil Ramos took to his Instagram account to share a short clip of him having a “conversation” with his younger self.

However, the catch is that he made it using generative artificial intelligence (AI), which he immediately clarified in the replies section.

Before anyone violently reacts, yes, this is all Al. Just having fun w[ith] it,” the pinned comment read.

While many users liked the concept of the video, as well as how it was executed—with some commenting in all caps: “GANDA”—this also raised eyebrows of some.

The first commenter, which Khalil eventually responded to, wrote: “you’re ‘just having fun with it’ while creative jobs are currently being threatened to be completely replaced by ai generation. you’re endorsing something that is harmful to the integrity of the creative industry industriya na bumubuhay sayo, mind you. artista ka pa man din.

In his defense, Ramos said: “I hear you, and I understand where you’re coming from. I also have my own reservations about Al use. I was genuinely hesitant to post this because I knew it could be perceived as promoting or endorsing Al in a way that I don’t fully stand behind.

The actor-singer continued, “At the same time, I wanted to see how people would respond to it when used more intentionally, and not just as brainrot or slop. I’m assuming you’re also part of this industry, which is why I value your perspective.”

Furthermore, he agreed to the point that said that the creative industry is what sustains his life. “And because of that, I feel caught between adapting and resisting. There’s the fear of not being able to adapt if this becomes the norm, and at the same time the fear of compromising my integrity as an artist if I don’t push back.

Lastly, “It’s easy to advocate for what we believe in, but navigating this moment as a creative is genuinely difficult especially when you realize Al isn’t just an experiment, but a billion dollar industry backed by the world’s biggest companies. I’m honestly still figuring this out myself, and I’d really like to hear your thoughts so we can have a healthy conversation about it!

In a separate comment, another user flagged him about it and told redirecting his intention of using it “does not erase the fact that Al is sourced and steals from works of actual artists” and added that it is not “adapting,” but “simply just conceding to these billionaires who do not aim to support artists but to limit them and rob them of the the work that should be owned by them.”

That netizen continued: “and half-using Al does not save you from all the ridicule it deserves sir, given that you have a big platform and you have followers who may be influenced by you to use Al even more. and please read, you have all the access to the internet to read all that there is to Al.

Khalil then answered, “Yeah, you have very valid points. Will definitely read more on it and be more aware next time. Though just to be clear, I did not say I was conceding, nor did I say that I have completely adapted to Al use. Tbh, I just really wanted to try it.”

Hence, the first commenter said that in the age that AI threatens jobs, the responsibility lies in the artists to “resist,” adding that “adapting” is what makes it a norm.

[I] appreciate this. Very strong argument. Yeah, i think the most alarming part is its environmental impact. Thanks for enlightening me,” Ramos responded to the netizen.
