She even shared how that idea popped up.
On Sunday, February 8 (Manila time), American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift unveiled the official music video for her hit single Opalite, a track off her album The Life of A Showgirl.
Running at exactly six minutes, the clip does not take itself seriously and presents itself playfully with various antics, such as fake advertisements and “relationships” of characters of Swift and her partner in the video, The Paper star Domhnall Gleeson, with inanimate objects.
That would then change later on as their paths crossed and them ending up vibing well with each other.
But the music video, which had already amassed 3.3 million views on YouTube, gave a peculiar information.
For those who have not known or did not catch it beforehand, all the major stars in the video were Taylor’s fellow guests when she appeared on the British talk show The Graham Norton Show in 2025, where she promoted the album.
During which, Gleeson joked about him doing a dance to make it onto a music video of the pop star.
But he was not alone, as the 36-year-old tapped all of the people seated on the same sofa as her that episode such as Cillian Murphy, Lewis Capaldi, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee.
Not to miss out on that opportunity, too, was the host himself, Graham Norton, who also made an appearance as the “Nope-alite Ambassador.”
In an Instagram post, Taylor revealed how the concept of assembling the star-studded video started.
“My favorite part about writing is that first spark of an idea. It can happen at any time, for any reason,” she began.
“The idea for the Opalite music video crash landed into my imagination when I was doing promo for The Life of a Showgirl. I was a guest on one of my favorite shows, [The Graham Norton Show]. For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s a UK late night show where Graham Norton (the insanely charismatic and lovable host) invites a random group of actors, entertainers, musicians, etc to be on his show and we all sit there and chat like it’s a dinner party. They even serve wine.”
TS then said that she remember that she felt “ridiculously lucky” to be put in the group that included Murphy, Gleeson, Lee, Smith-Turner, and Capaldi, “whose work I’ve admired from afar.”
“When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos. He’s Irish! He was joking! Except that in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an idea,” she continued.
And so a week after that, the actor received an email of the script that Taylor had personally written for the Opalite video, where he plays the starring role.
“I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too. Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory,” furthered the American superstar.
To her delight, she said, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the ’90s. “You might even recognize some friendly faces from The Eras Tour,” she revealed another Easter Egg for Swifties.
She also shared her pleasure to have worked again with Rodrigo Pietro for the MV, whom she described as “one of my favorite people in the world.”
“I had more fun than I ever imagined – Made new friends, metaphors, and fashion choices. It was an absolute thrill to create this story and these characters. Shot on film,” she ended her post.
