The most-enchanting fantasy series of its time.

On May 2, 2005, GMA Network launched another of its high-budgeted telefantasya creations called ‘Encantadia‘.

The title takes the name of the fictional realm that has four kingdoms, Lireo, Sapiro, Adamya, and Hathoria, which had been divided by the Hathors greed and plan to dominate the entire Encantadia.

The four Sang’gres were played by Iza Calzado (Amihan), Sunshine Dizon (Pirena), Karylle (Alena), and Diana Zubiri (Danaya).

Also included in the cast are Dingdong Dantes, Polo Ravales, Pen Medina, Benjie Paras, Cindy Kurleto, and Nancy Castiglione, among many others.

StarStruck‘ season 1 ultimate survivor Jennylyn Mercado was also assigned the major role of Lira, the daughter of Amihan and Ybrahim (Dingdong Dantes).

The launch of ‘Encantadia‘ came at the height of the telefantasya genre on GMA, which started with ‘Mulawin‘ in 2004, which was followed the second television adaptation of ‘Mars Ravelo’s Darna‘ in April 2005.

Due to its success, ‘Enca‘ had a strong 160-episode run, which was immediately followed by the prequel-time slip hybrid show ‘Etheria‘ and the third book, ‘Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas.’

Aside from television, the original Sang’gres were also given important roles in ‘Mulawin The Movie,’ which collided the worlds of the encantados and the humanoid birds of ‘Mulawin,’ for the 2005 Metro Manila Film Festival.

11 years after it first aired, the Kapuso network decided to make a requel (retelling-sequel) of the franchise. This time, it starred Kylie Padilla, Glaiza de Castro, Gabbi Garcia, and Sanya Lopez.

In 2025, a spin-off sequel to ‘Encantadia’ 2016, called ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre,’ will premiere on GMA’s primetime block.
