Upgrades in airports seen to boost economic progress

This administration remains committed to upgrading infrastructure, modernizing airports, enhancing connectivity, and boosting the economy.” That is what President Ferdinand Marcos at an event of flag carrier Philippine Airlines last Saturday, January 17.

He noted this as he encouraged private partners to continue working with the government to build on aviation-centered initiatives, which he said will sharpen the Philippines’ competitiveness and expand opportunities for Filipinos.

As part of this commitment, he shared the works being carried out in multiple regional airports around the country in line with this goal.

The list include the Modular Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) being constructed in the Siargao Airport, which will increase the capacity of the terminal and handle more passengers visiting the popular island getaway.

Through partnership with the private sector, the government has also started upgrading and expanding the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental and the Bohol-Panglao International Airport.

Meanwhile, at the Caticlan Airport in Aklan, a new terminal is being built to better serve both local travelers and tourists.

Equally significant is our collaboration under a public-private framework to modernize, operate, and maintain the Manila Airport,” with him noting the new facilities and immigration eGates being rolled out to enable faster passenger handling at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Meanwhile, there will also be a new international passenger terminal building at the Davao International Airport in Davao, which is set to be finished by the second quarter of 2027 with construction progress now at 30%.

Notably, in the current terminal, a new chiller was also installed to bring comfort to passengers using the airport.

The PHP450 million budget had already beem set by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines for the said airport expansion project.

Meanwhile, the Antique Airport was also recently reopened with new facilities and an expanded runway to handle jets.
