With the administration earlier vowing that there will not re-enacted budget next year.
In its statement on Tuesday, December 30, the Malacañan Palace said that the Executive Branch has begun the “comprehensive review” of the proposed PHP6.793 trillion 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA), which has been ratified by both houses of Congress.
According to Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, the Executive Branch received the 2026 GAA on December 29, 2025, and has been conducting a thorough review, which is expected to take about a week, to ensure its integrity and effective execution.
“We will ensure that the 2026 GAA will satisfy not only the legal and technical requirements but, more importantly, the needs of the Filipino people. This review is expected to take about a week,” said Recto.
He also said that the government services will remain uninterrupted even under a brief reenacted budget. “The public is assured that a brief period under a reenacted budget will not disrupt government operations.”
ES Recto furthered, “This deliberate review safeguards fiscal discipline and ensures that taxpayers’ hard-earned money is spent wisely and translated into benefits for the Filipino people.”
Meanwhile, in her prior comments last December 19, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro shared that the President will be keen to veto some items if needed.
“Pero ang gustong sabihin ng Pangulo, ang tinitiyak niya, bago siya pumirma, dapat naaral po itong mabuti, nabusisi, at kung may kailangan i-veto, ibi-veto,” she told.
