The two even filmed a movie together amid the noise online.
At the recent media conference for the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry Call Me Mother, lead star Vice Ganda and Kapuso personality Shuvee Etrata quashed the rumored rift between them.
The issue was born after Shuvee’s post about ABS-CBN losing its franchise and comments in “totropahin or jojowain” challenge, which included the name of Vice Ganda, resurfaced online—leading to a backlash from netizens.
In an interview, Etrata clarified that she was against the ABS-CBN shutdown in 2020, and noted that her reason for not “dating” Vice in the challenge is because she thinks that they are both women attracted to men.
During a portion of the interview, the cast were asked about who they consider to be their “mother” in the industry.
Etrata was one who chose Vice Ganda, and said, “Meme [Vice] has paved the way for me to learn, and be accountable and actually grow sa industry.”
Shuvee also described Vice as a “lighting torch” that guides her. “Binago niya ang buhay ko, sa pag-aartista ko po, simula sa ‘PBB’ hindi po namin alam ang pinaggagawa namin sa buhay. Ngayong na-realize ko na ang mundong ito ay madali as long as you let them — let them teach you, let them guide you, learn how to be accountable, learn from your mistakes and always look up to the person you value the most,” she added.
“I’m happy na I was given this chance to breathe the same air as Meme (Vice),” she also said.
Meanwhile, Vice said that her friendship with Shuvee has been through a lot, telling, “Ang dami na nating pinagdaanan, pinag-usapan, nasabi sa isa’t isa. Ganoon kaming dalawa, ‘pag may nararamdaman kami sa isa’t isa, pwede na naming sabihin sa isa’t isa and pwede namin i-resolve ng ‘tayo lang ito.'”
The TV host-comedian added, “Ako love ko ‘yang si Shuvee. Kaya sabi ko huwag tayong malulunod sa ingay; dapat tayong dalawa ang nagkakaintindihan. At nagkakaintindihan kaming dalawa ni Shuvee.“
Aside from Vice and Shuvee, also part of Call Me Mother are Nadine Lustre, Chanda Romero, Carmi Martin, Iyah Minah, Klarisse de Guzman, Esnyr, Brent Manalo, Mika Salamanca, MC Muah, and Divine Tetay, among others.
It is under the direction of Jun Lana, who also wrote the screenplay.
