On Saturday, November 15, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. went to Negros Occidental, where he personally visited affected families and inspected areas severely damaged by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi).
During his visit, Marcos inspected and oversaw the giving of assistance to Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia Sr. National High School (JPMGS NHS) in Moises Padilla, where most of the classrooms were submerged by floods.
JPMGS NHS has 1,257 enrolled students this school year, with learners and teachers having to resort to alternative delivery mode to ensure continuous learning.
From there, the President proceeded to Barangay Poblacion to visit affected residents and assess several damaged houses. After that, he also went to see evacuees at La Castellana Elementary School (LCES).
According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), 307 families consisting of 1,117 individuals are currently taking shelter at the LCES.
The President also inspected the Bungahin Steel Bridge in Barangay Robles in La Castellana, which collapsed during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino and cut access between upland barangays and the town proper.
Following the site inspections, the President conducted a situation briefing at the La Castellana Municipal Hall with cabinet members and local officials.
According to the Palace, President Marcos has allocated PHP95 million in aid for the recovery of Negros Occidental towns hit hard by Typhoon Tino, with PHP50 million allocated for the province of Negros Occidental.
