In a statement on Wednesday, October 29, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) announced the the appointment of Mario Búcaro as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
This development follows the recent restructuring of the Board of Directors at JKN Global Group in Thailand, with Búcaro succeeding Anne Jakrajutatip, who stepped down last June 20.
“The organization extends its heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Jakrajutatip for her visionary leadership and dedication, which greatly enhanced MUO’s global presence and commitment to inclusion and diversity. Her efforts have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire the organization’s mission as she now focuses on her family,” the MUO statement read.
As CEO of the Miss Universe Organization, Búcaro is said to be reinforcing MUO’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity while enhancing its global outreach.
His leadership will be focusing on strengthening international collaborations, expanding the organization’s presence across the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and Africa.
On top of those, he is said to be “enriching the candidate experience while upholding integrity and fairness.”
Búcaro will also work to further the organization’s social impact initiatives, as well as empower women and fostering leadership development through innovation, social responsibility, and global engagement programs.
Búcaro previously served as Vice President for International Relations at MUO since January 2024. He has an experience in international diplomacy, public service, and organizational leadership.
He has represented Guatemala as Ambassador to Israel and Mexico, as well as Concurrent Ambassador to Bulgaria and Cyprus. He also recently served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala.
During his tenure at MUO, Búcaro has played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s global reach.
He led the launch of the Beyond the Crown initiative, which promotes women’s leadership, education, entrepreneurship, and social impact beyond the competition.
The MUO has also strengthened international partnerships and expanded its presence to over 130 countries.
“The Board of the Miss Universe Organization expresses its full confidence in Mario Búcaro’s leadership to guide the organization into a new era of growth and global influence. His vision of Miss Universe as a worldwide movement that celebrates authenticity, transformation, and empowerment will continue to unite cultures, expand opportunities for women, and elevate the values that define our brand,” the MUO added.
