She had to address the matter anew after a barrage of hate comments thrown at her online.
In a post on her social media account, content creator Camille Co has once again clarified herself amidst the continued bashing she has been receiving.
This, and despite her earlier statements last week, some netizens have insisted on linking her to the controversial flood control projects just because she shares her surname with a couple of personalities engaged in the construction of these structures.
Camille wrote, “It may have seemed funny at first but these past few days have been so stressful. I’ve been dragged into this mess so unfairly—not just with the mistaken identity but also asking me to be accountable for people I have zero control
over.”
The longtime creator-influencer also vehemently denied being part of the “nepo babies” club and told her story of how she was able to reach her status now through her own work.
“I have been in this industry for 15 years. FIFTEEN LONG YEARS to build my career and get to where I am now. FIFTEEN YEARS of building my reputation. I didn’t know anyone in this industry,” she said.
“I started from zero. Never clinged to anyone for fame or clout despite various opportunities to do so. Never tried to climb the social ladder. Never even click baited you. Because I’m that adverse to fakery and infamy. So no, I’m not milking this (I’ve said no TV interviews about this even) nor do I want to take the spotlight and put it on me,” added Co.
The online personality also revealed her anxiety whenever her posts become viral, as she likes working “diligently and quietly” in her own way.
“Trust me. No one wants me to stop having to address this issue publicly over and over again more than me,” she expressed her exasperation.
Camille also conveyed her request of going back to working like how she used to do, as content creation is her bread and butter.
“This is what I do for my family. It may be just a side hustle for some, a way to flaunt their lifestyle or gain fame but not for me. This is how I pay for our house, food, staff, my kids’ education, everything. This is my livelihood. And my livelihood is so closely tied to MY NAME AND REPUTATION,” she underscored.
Co also iterated, “Nanakawan na nga ako ng tax katulad niyo. Pati identity ko ninananakaw din.”
Meanwhile, she also acknowledged people who have suggested her to change her surname and use her husband’s.
“I know you mean well but why? Why will I allow these people to take away my name that I worked so hard to build and protect? I refuse to let them take my name from me.”
She ended the note with a gratitude and gave her thanks to those that reached out to her.
In her previous statements, Camille had already denied any links with contractors and government officials who have the same surname as her.
