It will be a much-accessible overpass for communters.
On Thursday, August 14, Transportation Sec. Vince Dizon, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and House Transportation Committee Chair Rep. Franz Pumaren led the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Kamuning stop of the EDSA Busway.
The Department of Transportation said that it will be a modern concourse equipped with wheelchair lifts for all commuters, especially the senior citizen and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Moreover, it will be directly linked to the MRT-3 GMA-Kamuning station, providing seamless intermodal change for passengers.
The construction of the new busway stop is also a 2-in-1 work of sorts, as it will also be the brand new pedestrian footbridge in the area, replacing the controversial overpass hailed as the Mt. Kamuning.
It was back in June when it caught the attention of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., who immediately ordered its demolition.
“Nung nakita ito ng Pangulo talagang nadismaya siya. Ang sabi niya hindi dapat pinapahirapan ang pedestrian at mga komyuter kaya agad-agad ipinag-utos niya ang pagpapatanggal nitong Mt. Kamuning,” said Secretary Dizon.
He added, “Sabi nga ng Pangulo, hindi na makakapaghintay ang mga komyuter natin. Matagal na silang naghihirap kaya bibilisan natin ang construction nito.”
The transport chief also explained that these works would not cause any traffic issues, citing that they have elected to make use of the pre-fabricated construction process.
The new EDSA Kamuning Busway Station and footbridge is scheduled to be completed by December 2025.
