Nearly a decade since it went off the air.
In a teaser video uploaded on Monday, July 28, the one-and-only Pambansang Host, Luis Manzano, revealed his next project with ABS-CBN.
In the 30-second clip, he answered a call to talk to a familiar figure, who is none other than the iconic “Banker” from the beloved game show franchise ‘Kapamilya, Deal Or No Deal’.
The said program, which was hosted by Manzano from 2012 until 2016, returned to the screen on Monday afternoon to air past episodes of that incarnation.
However, Luis surprised his followers after sharing in the caption ‘KDOND’ will be getting all-new episodes “soon,” with more details yet to be revealed as of writing.
“Eto na!!!! Nagbabalik ang Kapamilya Deal or No Deal??? New episodes coming soon,” he wrote with three heart emojis at the end on Instagram.
ABS-CBN first localized the ‘Deal Or No Deal’ franchise at the height of the reality and game show mania in 2006.
It was originally hosted by the Queen of All Media, Kris Aquino, and aired on weekday primetime television. It became an instant hit, with some notable elements being the dance production featuring the 26K girls holding the briefcases at the start of each episode.
Notably, in 2007, the Aquino era of the show was also featured in the American ‘Deal Or No Deal’ hosted by Howie Mandel, who visited Manila to film episodes of the U.S. TV series.
However, the show was put to rest in 2009 as Kris Aquino hosted other game shows, including ‘Pinoy Bingo Night’ and ‘The Price Is Right’.
Almost three years later, in 2012 ABS-CBN revived the show and tapped Luis Manzano to present the new ‘Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal,’ which was aired every weekend.
It was only in 2015 when the program finally returned to weekdays, but as the lead-out show of the Kapamilya Gold afternoon programming block.
Replacing the models to hold the briefcases in that revamped weekday version were the Lucky Stars, with one of them chosen in each episode to become the next player.
For now, throwback episodes of ‘Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal’ are aired on the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and ALLTV at 5:45 pm.
