On Thursday, July 16, 2015, a split-second magic kickstarted the team-up between Kapuso actor Alden Richards and then-showbiz newbie, Maine Mendoza.
The “accident” happened during the ‘Problem Solving’ sub-segment of ‘Juan For All, All For Juan,’ when Maine broke from her usually stocic character as Yaya Dub.
When the male star’s was suddenly flashed on the other side of the screen, the new ‘EB’ mainstay at that time gushed and smiled.
That then led to her doing a cutesy move, which became known as the “Pabebe Wave.”
The interaction then did not end in that episode, as in the succeeding days, viewers tuned in to see the story on the team-up that would be eventually called as AlDub unfold.
As the interest grew, the ‘KalyeSerye’ segment was officially launched with the storyline following a blend of fiction and improv between the cast, which also include Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, and Paolo Ballesteros as Lola Nidora, Lola Tidora, and Lola Tinidora, among other characters they played as the story progressed.
Due to its tremendous success on TV and online, ‘Eat Bulaga’ was able to stage the ‘Tamang Panahon’ concert at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan on October 24, 2015.
That created the historic 50.8% TV rating in Mega Manila according to AGB Nielsen and 41.3 million tweets within 24 hours on social networking site Twitter.
After that event, ‘KalyeSerye’ went on to remain a fixture on the show until 2016.
