The next “big collab,” netizens joked.
On Friday, July 11, viewers watching the popular noontime variety program ‘It’s Showtime’ on GMA were surprised to witness a rather unfamiliar sight on the channel.
The ‘Madlang People’ on the Kapuso platforms saw a live picture of the ABS-CBN newsroom, particularly the ANC studio, for almost 30 seconds.
At that moment, it was seen that the set was being prepared for the broadcast of the noontime newscast ‘Dateline Philippines,’ which also airs every 12 noon.
The gaffe happened during the minute-long technical glitch that caused the show’s opening to start partially later than its Kapamilya counterparts.
Following the interval, ‘Showtime’ was able to air as usual.
However, screencaps of the incident were immediately posted by some users on social media.
For instance, the post made by an alt account has since garnered over 1.5 likes on X, formerly Twitter, and several reactions from others who quipped that this could be another “collab” between both networks.
ABS-CBN and GMA, who were once bitter rivals for TV ratings supremacy, have already been in close ties since forging their first major co-production, ‘Unbreak My Heart,’ in 2023.
The two media giants have since teamed up for the simulcast of ‘It’s Showtime’; the highest-grossing Filipino movie of all-time, ‘Hello, Love, Again,’ starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards; and the recently-concluded ‘Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition.’
