Through a social media post, ABS-CBN’s drama anthology program ‘Maaalaala Mo Kaya’ issued its statement on the recent episodes that featured the real life story of the Maguad family.

‘MMK’ wrote in its statement, “We are grateful for the overwhelming support and discussions following our recent episode, ‘The Maguad Family Story.’ Your engagement and empathy have deeply moved us.”

The show also addressed concerns that were raised by the adoption and foster care family.

Your voices matter. And we reiterate our steadfast commitment to telling stories that celebrate the strength, dignity, and worth of adopted and fostered individuals.”

For over three decades, we have shared numerous narratives highlighting the beauty of chosen families and the transformative power of unconditional love. This story has opened a conversation with difficult but necessary questions,” it furthered.

‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ also described what they told in the episodes as a “painful and rare tragedy,” but “it does not, and never will, represent the many beautiful and successful adoption and foster care stories out there.”

MMK is committed to remain a platform for stories that reflect the real, the raw, and the resilient-stories that help us move forward better and as one,” the drama anthology’s team ended its statement.

The Maguad family was marred by a heinous crime after siblings Gwynn and Boyboy were gruesomely killed inside their home in Cotabato, southern Philippines in 2021.

This triggered calls for justice, before it was later revealed that their foster sibling, Jasmine—the very person they welcomed inside their home, was both the mastermind and suspect of the act.

‘MMK’ two-episode presentation dealt with the emotional and psychological impact of the tragedy on the Maguad family, on top of raising awareness about familial trust, grief, and forgiveness.

Featured in the program’s episodes are Dimples Romana and Joem Bascon, who portrayed the mother and father of the siblings, Criza Taa as Gwynn, Miguel Vergara as Boyboy, and Jasmine having been assigned to Karina Bautista.

The two-part installment is one of the 13 episodes lined up for the comeback season of ‘MMK,’ which began airing anew last April after a two-year hiatus.
