Bookending her career that spanned over six decades.
On Saturday, April 12, news broke out that the legendary singer and original Filipino music (OPM) icon Pilita Corrales passed away at the age of 85.
Through her Facebook page, Pilita’s granddaughter, actress Janine Gutierrez, delivered the news.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mami and mamita, Pilita Corrales,” the post read.
The Kapamilya star then described her grandmother as a person who has “touched the lives of many, not only with her songs but also with her kindness and generosity.“
“She will be remembered for her contributions to the entertainment industry, but most of all for her love of life and family,” Janine added as she requested the public to join them in their prayers as they celebrate the beautful life of her mamita.
Meanwhile, she also noted that further details regarding memorial services will be shared in due course.
Pilita Corrales is regarded as ‘Asia’s Queen Of Songs,’ having recorded over 130 albums during her 67-year career, with her most-popular songs being the likes of ‘A Million Thanks To You’ and ‘Kapantay Ay Langit.’
She also became a judge in the original ‘Philippine Idol’ franchise in 2006, alongside Ryan Cayabyab and Francis Magalona.
That stint allowed her to become one of the jury members in the pan-continental competition ‘Asian Idol,’ produced in 2007.
Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pilita was also an hurado for the ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ contest on ‘It’s Showtime’ in early 2020.
Her last TV appearance was for the NET25 show ‘Keysayasaya’ in 2021.
