In a press conference early Friday morning (UK time), current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak from the Conservative Party has conceded his position to Labour Party leader Keir Starmer.

Sunak said that the “Labour Party has won this general election and I have called to Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory.”

“Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides,” he assured the public.

Sunak will remain as a Member of Parliament (MP).

Meanwhile, Starmer delivered his victory speech earlier in the evening, and stated: “Tonight, people here and around the country have spoken and they are ready for change the politics of performance and return to politics as public service.”

“You have voted, and it’s now time for us [Labour Party] to deliver,” the incoming Prime Minister said.

Starmer has been the leader of the Labour Party since 2020.

Exit polls, as of press time, indicate that out lf the 650 seats up for grabs in the House of Commons, Labour had secured an overwhelming majority of it with 410 seats called for them.

Parties need to have at least 326 to guarantee a majority in the House of Commons.

Meanwhile, ruling Conservative Party has seen its biggest dive since 1997, and has lost 240 seats in this election and now only projected to have 131 seats.

As for the parties in the running, Liberal Democrats have 61 seats, followed by the Reform with 13, SNP with 10, and Green Party with 2. Others, including independents, will take the remaining 23 seats.

Official election results are expected on the morning of Friday, July 5, in the UK.

Tories have been in power since 2010, which at that time saw them oust the Labour Party.
