It was a pioneering service offered by what was then-known as DZMM, the AM radio station of ABS-CBN.
On June 29, 2023, programs of ABS-CBN’s digital news station Teleradyo bade farewell to their loyal viewers and listeners.
This, as the station transitioned into becoming part of the operations of DWPM Radyo 630 and its complementary in-vision TV and online simulcast through the Teleradyo Serbisyo channel.
The ‘end’ of programs on TeleRadyo ushered in a new era for the channel, which traces back its origins to DZAQ-AM in 1953, and later, DZMM 630 from 1986 to 2020.
The television counterpart, then-named DZMM TeleRadyo, is the first-of-its-kind in the Philippines and went on air in 2007. In 2018, DZMM TeleRadyo was also expanded to digital television.
Since the denial of the franchise renewal bid of its parent company ABS-CBN in 2020, the former DZMM shows migrated to TeleRadyo and had been airing exclusively on pay television and digital platforms.
From June to November 2022, they had a short comeback on free TV via ZOE TV’s digital subchannel.
But in May 2023, ABS-CBN Corporation announced that it is pulling the plug on TeleRadyo, which had been incurring financial losses since the 2020 shutdown of DZMM.
The corporation, however, entered into a joint venture with Prime Media Holdings, Inc. to bring news programs to various third-party platforms under the company Media Serbisyo Corporation (MSC).
That JV led to the return of sorts for TeleRadyo’s programming to 630 kHz in Mega Manila.
Now branded DWPM Radyo 630 (Sais Trenta), the radio station debuted on the airwaves on June 30, 2023, more than three years after the frequency went dormant following the ABS-CBN broadcast shutdown.
