Kapamilya Channel added to Cignal, Satlite

“Kahit kailan, kahit saan pa.”

On October 21, the country’s leading pay TV operator Cignal announced the inclusion of ABS-CBN’s de facto replacement channel to their platforms. Beginning today, Kapamilya Channel will become available to Cignal TV and Satlite subscribers. It is now available on channel 22 for both satellite TV operators.

The news comes four months after the initial negotiation of ABS and Cignal to carry the channel. It is also the second channel on Cignal to carry ABS-CBN programming since A2Z launched two weeks ago.

Kapamilya Channel was first launched in June as the main terrestrial channel’s replacement on cable and while it was still waiting for the conclusion of the franchise renewal hearing. As the franchise was denied by Congress in July, it became clear that KC might linger around for much longer than what many have assumed.

Apart from those, the inclusion of the ‘main’ channel in Cignal and Satlite’s lineup also means the return of ABS-CBN news programs for Cignal Kapamilyas. As of now, both ‘TV Patrol’ and ‘The World Tonight’ are excluded from A2Z Channel 11’s schedule. Thus, it is a welcome development for those who are waiting to see Kabayan, Bernadette, and Henry on primetime.

The immense reach of Cignal that currently has more or less 2.5 million subscribers is also a big boost for Kapamilya Channel. Previously, ABS-CBN’s own direct broadcast satellite service Sky Direct had around a million customers before it was forced to shutdown on June 30. Therefore, with this announcement, Kapamilya is now able to reach 3 or 4 million viewers nationwide.

Kapamilya Channel is available on Cignal TV channel 22 and Satlite channel 22.
