“Ang sakit sa mata!”
That is what a user on X, formerly Twitter, said after seeing the introduction clip used by the new TV5 morning show Gandang Mornings With Ate Koring.
The said clip, which admits to being AI-generated content through an on-screen subtitle, was heavily lambasted by online users for supposedly having the work usually done by human creatives relegated to a task purely made by the technology.
“As a media company, dapat mas alam niyo ang kahalagahan ng creativity at originality. Dapat kayo ang nagpo-promote ng talento at nagbibigay ng oportunidad sa mga creative professionals,” the post by user with the handle popswft_ read.
To date, that has already garnered more than 590,000 views, with overwhelmingly negative reception from other users.
“Andami-daming mga magagaling na mga aspiring actors, at mas dumami na mga magagaling when it comes to media, creativity and film making ta’s AI solution nila???” one comment read.
Another said: “Two words: madali at matipid.”
Following the backlash, the episode that aired on Friday, October 16, the said introduction video has been removed, with an in-studio opening number by co-hosts Laila Chikadora and Cheena Crab being seen in the first few minutes of the show instead.
Although, the song that was also generated using artificial intelligence remained in use.
Meanwhile, during a recent media conference before the show was launched, main host Korina Sanchez-Roxas shared her view on the use of artificial intelligence.
“Alam mo, exciting kasi usong-uso ngayon!” mused Korina about the usage of the technology.
“Pero, ayokong mapalitan ng AI,” she added, noting that there are things that cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence.
Although, the anchor-host said that she finds entertainment value in the said tool, such as the rise of AI-generated microdramas.
“Susubukan naming ipakilala sa inyo ang aming mga karakter na AI-generated,” Sanchez-Roxas added.
During that conference, the team also shared that the theme song was also generated using artificial intelligence, with the lyrics being created by the show’s executive producer.
However, Korina clarified: “Hindi ko naman pinapangarap na mapalitan ang lahat ng tunay na singers. Meron pa ring talent ang totoong tao na hindi talaga mapupulsuhan o mapeperpekto ng AI.”
