‘Is this the world you want?’: Inka Magnaye heartbroken after mom loses voice-over to AI

Specifically, she feels for all artists and creatives in the industry.

Specifically, she feels for all artists and creatives in the industry.

“My heart breaks for all the artists and creatives,” said host and voice-over (VO) artist Inka Magnaye as she opened her latest social media post.

Through which, she revealed that her mother, Lindy Pellicer, lost a gig to artificial intelligence (AI) after the client, which is a “big brand” that Inka did not disclose, decided to go full Al with their VO.”

“To think this client is a big brand. Like, BIG. Of course hindi ko naman irereveal kasi I also understand business decisions are made for the interest of the company, but we need to think about where our money goes,” she wrote.

Parallel to that, in the caption, Magnaye told that it bothers her when big companies with money choose Al over paying for human talent.

She then recalled discovering a quote that left a mark on her years ago. “Where you spend your money is a vote you cast toward the future you want,” she said.

“So big brands with money, I ask you: Is that the future you want? A world where numbers, codes, and programs syphon the earth’s resources and take opportunities from actual human beings?”

In the caption of the post, she also questioned: “Is this the world you want? How much money do big companies need to hoard? Do you not want to put it back into the economy so we can continue being customers?”

“Sure, you save money. But the money you would have spent on the real people who would LOVE to work with you will end up spending this money back on you anyway. We are your customers, too,” furthered Inka.

For her, AI is a tool, but it should, ethically,  “never be used to replace human talent.”

She then gave a shout out to any brand or company that wants to her mother, who is a seasoned VO in the industry.

In the replies section, many of her followers shared the sentiment.

“Al has its place, but there’s something about human creativity and talent that technology simply can’t replicate,” one user commented.

To which, Inka responded with: “I agree! Al has its place and we should know it and keep it there. Thank you.”
