A new guild that will champion entertainment journalism in the midst of challenges brought by online falsehoods and AI-generated content.
At the recent Manila International Book Fair 2026 in Pasay City, where seasoned entertainment journalist and celebrity manager Noel Ferrer launched his book entitled Level Up: Narrating Stardom, Substance, and Service, the first guild for entertainment journalists in the Philippines was officially launched.
Called the League of Entertainment Narratives for Truth and Ethics (LENTE), the leadership team comprises editors from some of the biggest publications in the country, including Ferrer.
The group had their oath administered by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, while Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) Director-General Paolo Villaluna served as a witness.
Prior to the oath-taking ceremony, Villaluna emphasized that entertainment journalists are part of the wider ecosystem of the film industry.
“Kami ay naniniwala sa Film Academy of the Philippines na ang cinema o ang produksyon mula TV, commercials, verticals, at cinema ay isang malaking ecosystem… All of that is sustained by entertainment media and reporters,” he said.
Villaluna continued, “So, yes, entertainment reporters are film workers who do not only deserve respect, acknowledgement, but most importantly, protection for their workers’ rights and benefits.”
He also emphasized that legitimate journalism, in the age of AI and post-truth, helps build a better nation by having a “shared record of facts, history, and belonging.”
