Fans were able to ask actor-singer-author Wilbert Ross during his book talk and signing event on Saturday, September 12 at the recently concluded Manila International Book Fair 2026.
When he was asked about when he realized that he had the passion to become an author of his own original comic book series.
The showbiz personality said that it started for him back in 2021, with his entire comic book universe having been completed in 2024.
“(At kung) bakit ko s’ya ginagawa, I believe you have purpose talaga. May kanya-kanya tayong purpose sa life and isa sa akin ay mag-share ng art ko na pwedeng makatulong sa mundo natin. And, isa rin itong outlet para ma-release ko ang stress ko,” he furthered.
Another fan asked him whether he now enjoys writing comic books more than he does songs, Wilbert pointed out the difference between the two mediums for him.
“‘Yung pagsusulat, ayaw ko s’yang gawing trabaho, e. Kaya ‘di ako nagsusulat para sa ibang tao. Kasi ayaw ko na you are required, paid to do it… gusto ko ‘yung feeling na nasa shower ako at biglang may idea na dumating na gusto ko o nasa airport ako at bigla kong naisip ko ‘yung gagawin na superhero. ‘Yun ‘yung gusto ko in my life, ‘yung may creative freedom,” said Wilbert.
“Gusto ko lang ilabas ‘yung gusto kong ilabas na walang pressure,” he stressed.
The actor-singer-author also emphasized that the comic book characters he made all popped up in his mind due to the many societal and national issues affecting the country.
On whether he plans to bring these stories to educational institutions and agencies, Wilbert said that he is open to the idea.
“Maybe in the future, kung may mami-meet ako na someone from (these institutions and agencies) or parang sa mga districts nila,” he said, noting the valuable lessons incorporated in each story he made.
His publisher, 8letters Publishing House, said that it could be made possible by their team.
