It seemed that she has not yet cracked the code on how to overcome her close friend inside the court.
On Wednesday, June 10 (Manila time), Filipina tennis star Alex Eala returned to the grass court at the HSBC Queen’s Club Championships in London for the Round of 16 of the said WTA 500 tournament.
There, she once again faced her American peer Iva Jovic, whom she last went against with in the Roland Garros French Open in late May. In their previous match, Eala ended her journey in the said key tourney in her calendar early, as she lost in their bout, 4-6, 2-6.
Alex also looked to continue her six-match winning streak, which began in the recent Birmingham Open, which she won and allowed her to receive her first “grass season” trophy.
Alas, it was not an easy feat to crack the code of her opponent for Alex as in the first set, she was already catching up with Iva, who had seized control of the game early.
It would only continue into the second set, which despite the 21-year-old Pinay netter’s efforts to keep pace and establish herself on the court, she would still eventually have to deal with a loss in their rematch.
The final score was a 2-6, 2-6.
Alex will shift her attention next to the Berlin Open in Germany, which will open on Monday, June 15.
