Marking the games’ return to Metro Manila after several years.
Last Thursday, May 28, the Department of Education (DepEd) officially announced that Quezon City will host the 2027 Palarong Pambansa.
In a press conference in Agusan del Sur, Undersecretary for Governance and Operations and Palarong Pambansa Secretary-General Malcolm Garma confirmed the city as host for the 67th edition of the country’s largest student sports competition.
“We have already officially communicated with the City Government of Quezon City regarding its hosting of the next edition of the Palarong Pambansa in 2027,” said Undersecretary Garma.
The upcoming 2027 Palarong Pambansa will be the second time that Quezon City will host the games, with the first time being in 1966.
Prior to this announcement, members of the Palarong Pambansa Board and Secretariat conducted inspections of various possible venues in the city.
Some that have been checked include the the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus, QC M.I.C.E. Center, Amoranto Sports Complex, Don Alejandro Roces Sr. High School, and Quezon City High School.
Representatives of the DepEd, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) also met with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte to discuss preparations for the holding of the national games.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary Sonny Angara praised current host province, Agusan del Sur, for its successful hosting of the current Palarong Pambansa
He then expressed confidence that the next edition in Quezon City will also be successful.
