The program forms part of the celebration of National Migrant Workers’ Day, which is observed every June 7.

Until Sunday, May 31, the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and the Intramuros Administration are offering the government’s Pasyal Pamilya program.

The weeklong heritage program offers returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families free guided tours and access to various activities within Intramuros, which aim to to deepen their appreciation of Philippine history and culture.

Through this program, which kicked off last Monday, May 25, they can avail of free access to heritage attractions, such as Centro de Turismo Intramuros and Fort Santiago, through free guided tours.

Eligible participants may bring up to four family members and avail of free admission and guided tours upon presentation of a valid Overseas Employment Certificate or OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) membership ID.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the initiative was envisioned as more than a heritage tour, but also as a space for OFWs to spend meaningful time with loved ones after long periods of separation.

“‘Pasyal Pamilya’ is our way of honoring the sacrifices of our Overseas Filipino Workers and returning migrant workers by giving them and their families meaningful experiences in Intramuros,” she said.

Through these guided tours, we hope to create lasting memories, strengthen appreciation for our heritage, and remind our modern-day heroes that they are always valued and welcome home.”

Angara-Mathay also noted that beyond expressing gratitude to the hard work of OFWs, the goal of the program is also to “evoke the nostalgia of the days when families routinely took the weekend to walk around Luneta Park, bringing back those cherished memories and offering a relaxed, meaningful space to bond right next door in the historic heart of Manila.”

The week-long activity is part of the Philippines’ observance of National Migrant Workers’ Day every June 7.

It is also in line with the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) 2023–2028, which aims to promote culturally rooted, inclusive, and meaningful tourism experiences while fostering a deeper appreciation of Philippine identity and heritage among Filipinos.
