It is one of the upcoming fares at the newly-opened mall of the group.
The new Ayala Malls Arca South in Taguig City is set to become the home of a returning supermarket brand to the Philippines.
Makro, which used to operate in the country from the 1990s up to the late 2000s, is poised to make a comeback through the tie-up between Ayala Corporation, through its subsidiary ACX Holdings Corporation, and Thailand-based CP Axtra, the owner of Makro ROH Co. Ltd.
Through its team-up, both firms have established M&Co Corporation, which will oversee the return of Makro stores in the Philippines.
At the Arca South outlet, the upcoming Makro store is reportedly going to span 6,000 square meters of retail space, which will add to the mix of tenants, that includes small and medium-sized businesses inside the mall, which was soft-launched last February.
Ayala Malls Chief Operating Officer Paul Birkett, in his interview with ABS-CBN News, noted: “It’s not all about filling it full of your big corporate boxes. We’ve got small retailers. People who are one-man operators, two-man operators.”
At present, no exact date for the launch of Makro in Arca South was disclosed, but it was noted to be taking place later in the year.
AYALA MALLS ARCA SOUTH
Last February 13, Ayala Malls Arca South was opened to the public. The said mall was designed to be “Taguig’s next-generation escape,” blending modern convenience with an easygoing, community-centric atmosphere.
“Nature-filled green spaces and sun-lit interiors set the stage for casual meetups after work and relaxed wandering with family and friends,” noted the mall chain.
It also added that the mall was built around connectivity and accessibility through its integrated basement parking and links to major transport hubs.
There are also curated zones, including Fresh Grounds, which is Ayala Malls’ first-ever roastery zone that brings together artisanal coffee and pastry cafés from both local and international names.
The Crates, meanwhile, offers the fresh market experience featuring regional delicacies, fresh produce, and vibrant flower stalls. Adding to the flavor are outdoor food trucks that serve “crowd favorites” from various brands.
Ayala Malls Arca South is set to make its full opening in late 2026 once its other phase has been completed.
