As temperatures continue to rise amid the ongoing warm and dry season.
On Thursday, April 23, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has officially launched a new air-conditioned waiting room at the northbound platform of Baclaran station in Parañaque City on Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1).
The company noted that the initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to “improving the passenger experience by providing a cooler space for commuters to stay in between train intervals during the intense summer season.”
The air-conditioned passenger waiting room was made through a partnership with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – Mahajak Air Conditioners Co. Ltd. (MACO), which is one of the leaders in Thailand’s air conditioning industry.
The room is open to all LRT-1 passengers while they wait for their train, but to promote an inclusive environment, priority will be given to those who need it most—including senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with special needs.
To ensure that everyone has a fair chance to enjoy the new amenity, passengers are advised to stay in the waiting room only during train intervals.
Once the train arrives, they are asked to move to the boarding area as their train arrives, which can help passengers clear the space for others who are interested in using the facility and allow the room to serve as many people as possible throughout the day.
LRMC President and CEO Enrico R. Benipayo said in his message during the launch of the new room, “Our goal is to constantly find ways to make the daily journey better for our passengers.”
“This new air-conditioned space is a simple yet significant way to provide additional comfort, especially during these hot summer months,” he added.
This latest improvement is a key part of LRMC’s mission to modernize the transit experience. With Baclaran being one of the busiest stations of the line, it aims to ensure that the daily commute is more bearable despite the outdoor temperatures.
