In a post on his Instagram account, national pole vaulter EJ Obiena shared a milestone that he recently had as an athlete outside the track.

The 32-year-old and the Atletang Ayala World Pole Vault Challenge, which happened in September 2025, donated PHP3.1 million to the Cancer Care Hope Fund.

He wrote, “I am very honored that Atletang Ayala World Pole Vault Challenge was able to donate 3.1 million Pesos to the Cancer Care Hope Fund. This fund supports patients throughout the cancer care process, from diagnostics to treatment and aftercare.

This shows how sport can go beyond competition or as a form of entertainment and become a leverage in making real positive impact in people’s lives,” noted the athlete.

The donation is especially important as cancer ranks as the world’s second leading cause of death. “It robs families of their loved ones before their time. As is often the case, money is a part of the solution,” EJ also wrote.

Meanwhile, he also looked back when the idea of hosting a street vault in Philippines came about or when he was pitching it.

I didn’t know how big it would be. I knew it was possible but the question was how good would it be…,” told the pole vaulter, who also championed in the said tournament.

He added, “Well, it went GREAT, much exceeding what I have envisioned. We were able to host a truly world class event and showcase what Filipino excellence can accomplish and more. More!!! In several ways, the event went exceeded beyond sport.

In conclusion, he was overflowing in gratitude and honor and said, “I am proud and honored to be part of such event and I would like to thank everyone who have made this event a success. From the athletes who showcased their ablities to the sleepless members of the organizing committee, and ofcourse, our generous sponsors. Maraming salamat po.
