Michelin Guide names Philippines as one of ‘most-exciting food destinations’ in 2026

In the new list published by the world-renowned Michelin Guide, it listed 16 recommended food spots all over the globe as part of its Most Exciting Food Destinations for 2026.

Included there is the Philippines, where it noted that it an “ideal time to explore the country’s food scene” in 2026, with the dishes having neen recommended by its anonymous inspectors. Among which are sisig, sinigang, inasal, and adobo.

The list also highlighted year-round fresh produce in the country.

Additionally, the food guide recommended several high-quality accommodations in the Philippines for visitors, including the Grand Hyatt Manila, Shangri-La the Fort, One-Key Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu Resort, and Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan.

Aside from the Philippines, countries and places like Italy, Türkiye, China, Saudi Arabia, Florida, Canada, and Poland.

In response, the Department of Tourism (DOT) welcomed the recognition, with Sec. Chirstina Frasco noting, “Gastronomy is a vital expression of our national identity. This recognition supports our broader goal of strengthening sustainable tourism by celebrating what is authentically Filipino and by elevating the people and places behind our food.

She added, “With the support of our stakeholders, we aim to elevate our culinary identity, celebrate our rich traditions, empower food producers, and share our unique stories with the world.”

She also heralded 2026 as a “testament” to the Philippines’ exceptional culinary potential, which include the arrival of the Michelin Guide and the hosting of the UN Tourism World Gastronomy Forum.

Last October 30, Michelin Guide recognized 108 establishments in Manila and environs, and Cebu. In the Philippines, there was only one that received a Two-Star, eight with One-Star, 25 Bib Gourmand, and 74 MICHELIN-Selected restaurants.

The said guide also recognizes the outstanding traditional and modern cooking techniques among the country’s young local chefs.
