MMDA GM Torre leads inspection of EDSA rehab works

The works began last Christmas Eve.

The works began last Christmas Eve.

On Sunday, January 4, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicholas Torre III personally inspected the ongoing rehabilitation works along EDSA.

During which, he was with officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTR), and other agencies.

In the said joint inspection from Orense Street in Makati all the way to the Roxas Boulevard, they discussed the construction works, which will see DPWH move to other lanes. Although, time will be limited to start at night and end at 5:00 am to make the roads passable.

The works will then be suspended at 4:00 am to ensure that the affected lanes will be reopened immediately.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon previously announced that Japanese technology will be used to ensure that it will not only be built fast, but will also last.

Moreover, it also costs only PHP 6 billion, compared to the original price of PHP17 billion.

He said, “‘Yung unang plano, dalawang taon minimum. Sabi ng Pangulo, hindi pupwede ‘yan. Kailangan ‘yan maiksi. Kailangan minimal ‘yung disruption, so, ang bagong plano, walong buwan na lang imbis na dalawang taon gamit ang stone mastic asphalt.”

For the Department of Transportation, Secretary Giovanni Lopez said that there will continue to be a dedicated lane for the EDSA Busway. He also vowed to ensure that there will be sufficient vehicles for passengers throughout the project’s implementation.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority also said that it is ready to deploy additional traffic enforcers to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Bukod sa karagdagang mga MMDA personnel meron din pong alternative routes tayong bubuksan para tuloy-tuloy ang daloy ng traffic,” Chairman Don Artes said.
