In a meeting held recently, the University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB), led by Chancellor Jose Camacho Jr., presented to Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Sec. Jose Ramon Aliling their proposed housing projects.

These rental units aim to address the need of low-income campus workers for shelter and issues concerning informal settler families (ISFs), which the UPLB management deemed as urgent, under the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.

In response, the housing chief stressed that UPLB management can just replicate the department’s prior engagement with UP Diliman. The master development plan was presented by DHSUD team, to expedite the process and the Pook Marilag Residences is already slated to commence construction early next year.

He also noted that the Expanded 4PH scheme also prioritizes the safety of residents, especially those living near danger zones like riverside and cliffside, among others.

The UPLB management then welcomed Aliling’s suggestion, with Camacho quoted saying, “Malaking bagay po ang tulong ng DHSUD para matugunan naming ang problema sa pabahay ng aming mga admin personnel na nasa low-income bracket, at iyung mga informal settlers sa loob.”
