On to of their recent special reunion reality show.
On Saturday, December 27, the Ssangmundong Squad from the 2015 hit drama series Reply 1988 were once again seen together in one video.
Fresh from their recent participation in the reunion program to celebrate the show’s 10th anniversary, Ryu Hye-young, Lee Hyeri, Go Kyung-pyo, Ryu Jun-yeol, Park Bo-gum, Ahn Jae-hong, Lee Dong-hwi, and Choi Sung-won teamed up anew to perform one of the series’ official sound track, Hyehwadong.
According to description provided by distributor Stone Music Entertainment, it is the reinterpretation of the original song by the Ssangmundong children, “with more meaning.”
“The song features a structure that showcases each character’s charm, with naturally flowing harmonies,” it continued.
“Beginning with a recorder melody reminiscent of childhood, the song’s exchange of melodies over acoustic sounds showcases their enduring chemistry, and the song concludes with a passionate sing-along from the Ssangmundong children, culminating in a moving climax.”
Aside from them, Lee Il-hwa, Ra Mi-ran, and Kim Sun-young performed Don’t Worry, You, which “maintained the warm sentiment of Jeon In-kwon’s original while adding an acoustic nylon guitar arrangement for a warmer sound.”
Reply 1988 originally aired in 2015 and is one of the biggest hits to ever come out of cable network tvN, registering an outstanding 18.803% in the nationwide television ratings—over six times the usual threshold of success of 3% for shows aired by these channels.
Internationally, it has also gained a following, as the show has been added to various streaming platforms and aired by local TV networks.
In the Philippines, the Tagalog-dubbed version was aired back in 2020 by TV5, which came in tandem with its availability on Netflix.
