He is stepping back to the spotlight sooner than many think.
On Saturday, December 20, singer-actor Hwang Minhyun was officially discharged from South Korea’s mandatory military service program.
The 30-year-old entered it to fulfill his duties as a Social Worker in March 2024, and served for 21 months.
But not even a month after finishing his duties, the former NU’EST and Wanna One member will immediately return to his commitments in showbusiness.
He is set to serve as an MC for the 2025 MBC Gayo Daejejeon on December 31, where he will stand alongside SHINee’s Minho and ALLDAY Project’s Annie.
Hwang debuted in 2012 as part of the group NU’EST. He was a member until the group disbanded after a decade in 2022.
In 2017, he, along with fellow NU’EST members JR, Baekho, and Ren, participated in the survival show PRODUCE 101 Season 2. By the program’s end, Min Hyun ranked at number 9. He then eventually joined the project group WANNA ONE, which was active until 2019.
He had since launched his solo music career, with his extended play Truth or Lie released in February 2023.
Outside of his idol career, Hwang has also been successful as an actor. He played major roles in multiple television series like Seo Yul in Alchemy of Souls, Go Eun Taek in Live On, and Yoon Ga-min in Study Group.
Reports from Korean media also suggest that Hwang is also considering to join the second season of Study Group, although his participation has yet to be confirmed.
