The new segment is launching very soon.
On Friday, October 24, GMA Network formally announced that it has reached a partnership with South Korean production company Kanverse for the Philippine version of ‘The Veiled Musician.’
The said program, which airs on SBS in its home country, sees contestants judged based only on their musicality and voice.
The upcoming local version will be aired as a segment of the Kapuso network’s weekly variety show ‘All-Out Sundays.’
Girls’ Generation star Tiffany Young is also confirmed to be joining the show as a special guest judge, who shared what traits is she looking for in the contestants.
“It’s definitely the vocal style, like how much you can express, what type of songs you’re choosing and how — I mean, technique I’m always gonna look for, but how animated and how authentic and personal you can make the song for yourself without showing any parts of you,” said the singer who returned to the country months after her solo concert last July.
She also noted that the audition process, in itself, is already a “brave” move on the part of the contestants and said that she is rooting for everybody to do their best.
Apart from those, Young also revealed in her interview that she idolizes Filipina Broadway Icon, Lea Salonga, which is why she is excited to see the Filipino version materialize.
“World famous and one of my favorite vocalists of all-time [is] Miss Lea Salonga. So, I’m really, really excited.”
Present during the contract signing were GMA Network Officer-in-Charge for Entertainment Group and Vice President for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy and Kanverse CEO Seo Min Kyu, with show producer and director Lee Honghee.
According to the Korean team, the winner of the Philippine version will be getting the chance to compete in the finale of the South Korean show against other contestants in the region.
At present, they have already been in other countries, namely Indonesia, Mongolia, and Laos.
Other details regarding ‘The Veiled Musician Philippines,’ including its premiere date and judges, will be revealed soon.
