One of these might become the country’s next entry to the prestigious award-giving body.
During the press conference for the upcoming Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM) on Friday, August 15, Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chair Direk Jose Javier Reyes disclosed 7 movies that are in the running to become the Philippines’ next submission to the Academy Awards.
Specifically, one of them will be submitted as entry for the Best International Feature category.
As Reyes confirmed, the possible entries are ‘Magellan,’ ‘Sunshine,’ ‘Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea,’ ‘Green Bones,’ ‘Hello, Love, Again,’ ‘Some Nights I Feel Like Walking,’ and ‘Song of the Fireflies’.
According to him, the FDCP, along with the Film Academy of the Philippines, will “hopefully” convene towards the end of this month to officially select the movie that will represent the country.
After the selection, the FAP will give PHP 1 million to help in the campaign of the movie at the Oscars, whule the FDCP will be in charge of marketing.
The title of the entry is then set to be revealed at the Gala Night of the Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM) 2025 on September 11, 2025, with the deadline for the submissions for the category having been scheduled by the Academy Awards on October 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, the shortlists announcement for the next Oscars will happen in December, with the nominees going to be named by February 2026.
The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15, 2026 (or the following day, Manila time).
