Another project from him that his fans need to watch out for.
On Thursday, July 10, streaming giant Netflix officially announced that Korean actor Byeon Woo Seok has been chosen to play the lead role in one of its upcoming offerings.
According to platform, the 33-year-old will be portraying Sung Jin-woo in the live-action adaptation of ‘Solo Leveling,’ which is based on a Korean web novel and later, a webtoon, that became a global phenomenon.
In the series, Sung Jin-woo is considered to be an E-rank Hunter, which is the lowest tier, who will gain extraordinary abilities and as he levels up, he becomes humanity’s unexpected hope, defending against monstrous threats emerging from beyond the mysterious Gates.
‘Solo Leveling’ has also consistently ranked first on KakaoPage, a web novel platform in South Korea, and to daye, has amassed over 14.3 billion views globally.
For the upcoming live-action series adaptation produced by Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures, “vivid characters, dynamic action sequences, and exhilarating quests, brought to life by a world-class global VFX team” was promised.
“The series will also introduce viewers to fantastical dungeons and uniquely powerful monsters, setting a new standard for live-action adaptations,” it added.
Aside from Woo Seok, also set to work on the series are directors Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, known for their work in films like ‘Ashfall,’ ‘Like a Virgin,’ ‘Castaway on the Moon,’ ‘My Dictator,’ and ‘Cold Eyes’.
The show will mark Byeon Woo Seok’s comeback after starring in the 2024 break-out hit series ‘Lovely Runner’ as Ryu Sun-jae.
Later that year, he was also seen in the romantic drama ‘No Gain, No Love,’ where he appeared in a cameo role as a fictionalized version of himself working in a neighborhood convenience store.
Apart from ‘Solo Leveling,’ he has also been cast as Prince Lee Ahn in ‘The 21st Century Granr Prince’s Wife’.
Meanwhile, Woo Seok is also set to visit the Philippines again on Saturday, July 19, for his solo fan meeting at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
