‘Frontline Sa Umaga’ returns as ‘Gud Morning Kapatid’ segment

It is back on TV after a while.

On Monday, June 9, a familiar title made its comeback on the TV5 early news show ‘Gud Morning Kapatid’.

The news segment, which has been known as ‘Pasada Balita’ since October 2024, has been revamped anew.

This time, it re-utilized the old name that was ‘Frontline Sa Umaga,’ which was the morning edition of News5’s flagship brand ‘Frontline Pilipinas’.

In addition to that, the returning title was also given the same logo treatment as the other ‘Frontline’ newscasts, which recently rebranded to a new unified logo effective last May 26.

For its color scheme, a lighter shade of blue was deployed for the third iteration of ‘FSU,’ contrasting from its yellow (original) and teal (revival) motifs in the past.

‘Frontline Sa Umaga’ was first launched back in May 2021 as TV5’s attempt at making an early morning straight news program, its first since ‘Aksyon Sa Umaga’ ended in 2017, and was anchored by Paolo Bediones and Marga Vargas.

However, it was later moved to 10:50 am in October 2021, remaining as a mid-morning newscast even until the tandem of Gretchen Ho and Jes Delos Santos took over in 2022.

The show was later absorbed into ‘Gud Morning Kapatid’ when it premiered in June 2023.

However, by May 2024, TV5 decided to decouple the program again and revived ‘Frontline Sa Umaga’ as a standalone newscast with Jes Delos Santos, Ruth Cabal, and Andrei Felix.

A separate ‘Frontline Sa Umaga Express’ on the ‘GuMoKa’ was also launched at that time.

Again, a new scheduling revamp in October that year saw ‘Gud Morning Kapatid’ transferred to 5:30 am and ‘FSU’ axed for the second time.

Since then until last Friday, June 6, the news segment was known as ‘Pasada Balita,’ effectively breaking away from the ‘Frontline’ brand.
