As the Catholic population observe the solemn occasion.
Through Memorandum Circular No. 116, the Office of the Executive Secretary, led by acting chief Ralph Recto, has directed government employees to work from home from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, with afternoon work suspended, on Holy Wednesday, April 1.
This to allow employees prepare and travel to their home provinces for the Holy Week, and observe Maundy Thursday (April 2) and Good Friday (April 3).
However, agencies involved in the delivery of essential services, health, disaster preparedness and response, and other critical functions are instructed to continue normal operations to ensure uninterrupted public service.
Meanwhile, the implementation of a similar work arrangement in private companies and offices will depend on the discretion of their employers, noted the said advisory.
MARCOS TO RETURN TO ILOCOS NORTE
Meanwhil, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said during a press briefing that he will spend the Holy Week in his hometown in Ilocos Norte.
“For the Holy Week, I will spend a few days in Ilocos Norte. And I will be back in Manila by the weekend,” he noted.
During a Palace press briefing, Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro clarified that the President’s trip is not considered a vacation.
Instead, she said that Chief Executive will continue to oversee government operations during the Holy Week break.
“Si Pangulo, hindi uso ang salitang pagbabakasyon. Sabi nga niya, siya ay mag-spend ng Holy Week sa Ilocos Norte kasama ang kanyang pamilya,” Castro said.
She continued, “Walang pagbabakasyon dahil patuloy ang ating Pangulo sa pagmo-monitor at sa pagbibigay ng utos sa mga kailangan na gawin ng ating mga ahensya sa gobyerno.”
