Amid a major buzz regarding the next updates on the fate of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial in the Senate, a draft resolution made rounds on Wednesday, June 4.

It was first admitted by known Duterte ally, Sen. Imee Marcos, and was also likewise seen by Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada.

Later on, Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa admitted that his office is responsible for the drafting of the said resolution.

“Galing ‘yon sa office ko. You’ll understand everything—very self-explanatory. Mabasa niyo doon ano sinasabi ko, ano saloobin ko,” the other Duterte ally said.

In his comment, Senate President Francis Escudero called it a “mere scrap of paper” unless someone files the resolution in the plenary.

The draft resolution seeks to junk the impeachment raps against the Duterte, citing that the 19th Congress will adjourn sine die on June 13, 2025.

The articles of impeachment is then expected to be read on June 11, with SP Escudero saying that the Senate prioritizing the passing of priority bills that remain pending.

At present, the debate remains on whether the proceedings might cross over into the 20th Congress, which will then begin their term on June 30 and start their session during the fourth State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on July 28.

Last February 5, the House of Representatives voted to impeach VP Sara, citing mounting complaints that ranged from her alleged misuse of confidential funds to the threat she made against the Marcos family and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in November 2024.

On the same day, the articles were transmitted to the Senate—however, it was not tackled in the plenary due to the adjournment of session in light of the midterm polls and the campaign period.
