The card is no longer just for paying train or bus fares only.
AF Payments, Inc., owner of the Beep card system used in LRT and MRT networks in Metro Manila, partnered with GHL Systems to expand the card’s acceptance in establishments.
Using GHL-powered payment terminals, Beep cardholders will be able to shop or pay for their gas in Shell and Watsons.
AF Payments, Inc. President and CEO Jonathan Juan Moreno said that “[by] making transactions more convenient and accelerating the shift towards cashless payments, we are taking a significant step forward in our mission to elevate the digital payment landscape in the Philippines.”
The expansion also comes as AF Payments has set the target of reaching 3 billion transactions in 2025.
Recently, the same company teamed up with Mastercard for the launch of the global payment service provider’s Open Loop Transit System in the BGC Bus network — which, until then, only allowed Beep cards as mode of payment.
After the bus line, the scheme will be eventually rolled out by AF Payments throughout the MRT-3 rail line and EDSA Carousel networks in 2025.
