Telecommunications giant PLDT recently introduced a new device for its PLDT Home subscribers.
Called the ‘Fiber Always On,’ the hybrid modem is touted by the company to be the “world’s first,” and will allow customers to have an uninterrupted internet connection.
PLDT’s Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business- Home Jeremiah De La Cruz said that its device will be capable of automatically switching from the fixed fiber line to LTE, should there be a downtime, severed cable tie, or an area-wide service disruption.
Additionally, once it detects an issue with the fixed line, the device will also automatically send a report ticket to technicians — streamlining the process for customers, as they need not to manually file through customer service agents.
PLDT promises a speed of up to 1 gigabytes per second (Gbps) for the fiber component, while there will be an unlimited LTE loaded as a backup.
This new modem will also be offered at a low price of Php 299 on top of subscribers’ existing plans.
According to its corporate website, PLDT current has 3.3 million subscribers and a total of 1.1 million kilometers of cable nationwide.
