He was on a trip to South America when the incident happened.

Late Wednesday afternoon (local time), the Argentine media reported that English musician Liam Payne, who was a member of globally-acclaimed boy band One Direction, has been found dead.

The Buenos Aires police disclosed that Payne fell from the third storey balcony of a hotel in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

They said that this fall resulted to serious injuries, which caused him to be declared dead on the spot by the responders.

Furthermore, the authorities divulged that prior to that, the hotel management called their attention at past 5:00 pm (local time) for an intoxicated guest “who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol” and “damaged the entire room.”

Investigation is now underway for the exact cause of Payne’s death, who had traveled to Argentina for vacation and attend former One Direction co-member Niall Horan’s concert in the country on October 2.

In the wake of reports about his deaths, fans and colleagues in the music industry have sent in their tributes and parting messages to the 31-year-old pop star.

Charlie Puth posted on his Instagram account a photo that he took with Liam Payne when they did a collaboration for the song ‘Bedroom Floor.’

Puth then shared on his story a message where he wrote: “I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I can not believe he is gone.”

Producer and disc jockey Zedd, meanwhile, who the English musician collaborated with for ‘Get Low,’ took to X (formerly Twitter) to grieve the Payne’s death.

Liam Payne, a native of Wolverhampton, England, first joined the reality-singing competition ‘The X Factor’ in 2008, but was initially told he was too young to join and was asked by judge Simon Cowell to “return in two years.”

He held on to that and did make his comeback to the show in 2010, where he, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan, were organized by judge Nicole Sherzinger to form a five-piece team that will compete in the Groups category.

After ‘X Factor,’ they all joined Syco to pursue doing music together as One Direction, and went on to release one hit song after another, led by the likes of ‘What Makes You Beautiful,’ ‘One Thing,’ ‘Live While Were Young,’ ‘Little Things,’ ‘One Way Or Another,’ and ‘Best Song Ever.’

As a member of the group, Payne is credited as songwriter for some of their biggest songs like ‘Midnight Memories,’ ‘Steal My Girl,’ and ‘Night Changes.’

After releasing ‘Drag Me Down,’ ‘Perfect,’ and ‘History’ and the departure of Malik in 2015, the band went on hiatus, with all members pursuing solo music careers afterwards.

In 2017, Payne released the songs ‘Get Low,’ ‘Bedroom Floor,’ and ‘Strip That Down.’

From 2018 to 2020, he had the albums and extended plays ‘First Time,’ ‘LP1,’ and ‘Midnight Hour.’

In March this year, Liam released what is now his final single titled ‘Teardrops.’

His personal life has also been a high-profile one, such as his relationship with fellow British pop star and ‘Girls Aloud’ member Cheryl Cole.

In 2017, they welcomed their son, but eventually ended their relationship the following year.

Liam then began dating model Maya Henry in 2019 and the couple confirmed their engagement the following year. Although, they broke up for good in 2022 after calling it quits the first time around just a few months before that.
