The “Yotits” of ‘Wag Po!’ are now leading the newsrooms at Reliance.
On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, TV5’s news and information division, commonly known as News5, saw the installment of its new officer-in-charge, Patrick Paez.
Paez is a familiar figure for the men and women of channel 5’s newsroom, as he had previously served as an executive in the Kapatid newsroom as its News Production head from 2010 to 2019.
He was also a documentarist of the public affairs show ‘Kaya’ and host of satire program ‘Dokumentado,’ where he coincidentally took over from his predecessor, Luchi Cruz-Valdes.
Valdes, the former News5 chief, formally retired from her duties as TV5’s Vice President for News last Monday, September 30, after 14 years in the position.
According to a report from media industry news blog Medianewser, Paez’s mandate as News5’s officer-in-charge is to create more synergies between the TV5 division and its sister Mediaquest news properties like One News, One PH, and Radyo5 True FM.
Concurrent to his job as News5’s OIC, Patrick Paez continues to appear on television as the host of One News’ afternoon news and talk program ‘Storycon’ with Ed Lingao.
Meanwhile, taking the reins at Paez’s home turf of Cignal TV is his fellow host in the defunct primetime talk show ‘Wag Po,’ Jove Francisco, who assumed on the same day the role of being the officer-in-charge of News Content.
Francisco’s primary task is to manage the pay television news channels One News and One PH, which are both available on Cignal TV and Satlite platforms.
Aside from his OIC mandate, Francisco is also hosting the afternoon news show ‘Sa Totoo Lang’ on One PH and Radyo5 True FM.
Like his predecessor Patrick Paez, Jove Francisco was also previously with News5, having served as the network’s correspondent and anchor of news programs like ‘Aksyon JournalisMo’ and ‘Pilipinas News’ on TV5 and ‘Balitang 60’ on AksyonTV.
He then transitioned to behind-the-scene work at the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) from 2016 to 2018 as the executive producer of the Philippines’ longest-running newscast ‘The World Tonight.’
In 2018, Francisco returned to Reliance to build 24/7 English news channel One News, where he served as the executive producer of the news show ‘The Chiefs.’
He later returned as an on-cam talent via ‘Sa Totoo Lang’ and ‘Wag Po!’ upon the launch of sister Filipino news and public service channel One PH in 2019.
