BGYO rescinds case against one netizen; pushes legal battle for others

The Filipino music group has withdrawn the cyberlibel case that it filed against one netizen.

The Filipino music group has withdrawn the cyberlibel case that it filed against one netizen.

On Friday, September 6, it was revealed that one netizen involved in the case filed by P-pop group BGYO has backpedaled and expressed her apologies to the team.

The respondent, Rachelle Galang, had an intimate meeting with the band’s members Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate, and their legal counsel Atty. Joji Alonso.

After reading her prepared statement, BGYO said that they have accepted Galang’s apology, but vowed to continue their case against the other netizens who have thrown harsh words and unfounded rumors about the members on social media.

It was back in June when members of the Filipino boy group submitted their sworn affidavits and filed their cyberlibel and unjust vexation complaints against those who are spreading malicious and unfounded rumors about them.

According to their legal counsel Atty. Joji Alonso, “[f]iling of criminal cases will be set in motion. Again, we remind the public that it is not only crucial to call out acts of bashing and cyberbullying, but to show kindness and accord everyone due respect, both online and in real life.”

The lodging of the formal complaint followed the earlier stern warning issued by the group’s management Star Magic in April.

However, the identities of the individuals, to whom these cases were filed against, were not publicized.

Members Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate, have been the subject of various attacks online in recent years, including the accusations of bullying, cheating, and use of illegal drugs.

The boy group debuted in 2021 with the song ‘The Light,’ and to date, had released multiple singles like ‘He’s Into Her,’ ‘The Baddest,’ ‘When I’m With You,’ ‘Tumitigil Ang Mundo,’ ‘Bulalakaw,’ and ‘Patintero.’
