The Pinay boxer defeated her Chinese counterpart on Sunday evening.

On Sunday, August 4, Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio battled it out against her People’s Republic of China counterpart Xu Zichun in the quarterfinals of the women’s 57kg category of boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympics in France.

From the get-go, the Philippine bet performed strongly against her Chinese opponent, and ended the first round with a perfect 10 from each of the five judges.

After three rounds, Petecio was declared the winner of the match via a unanimous decision of the board, giving her a sure slot in the medal round of the 57kg division.

This means that the boxer has secured the country’s second medal for the sport, and the third overall for the current Olympiad.

Earlier on Sunday, August 4 (Manila time), Aira Villegas defeated hometown bet Wasilla Lkhadiri in the 50kg division.

Aside from that, this victory would spell another medal in the bag for Petecio, who won silver in the Tokyo 2020 games that was belatedly held in Japan in July 2021.

At the moment, the Philippines has 1 gold medal from Carlos Yulo’s win in the men’s floor exercise in gymnastics on Saturday, August 3.
