The gymnast has bagged his second gold medal from the current Olympiad.

On Sunday, August 4, Filipino gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo competed anew for the men’s vault finals event in artistic gymnastics.

Yulo performed strongly after performing Ri Se Gwang in his first vault and a Kasamatsu double twist for his second vault.

He scored 15.433 in vault 1 and 14.800 for vault 2, yielding him an average score of 15.116 — catapulting him to the top spot in the event.

After all 8 contestants were through, the Yulo was able to get his second gold medal in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

This makes him the very first Filipino athlete to get two medals, more so two gold medals, from a single edition of the Olympics.

He is also the third Filipino multi-medalist in the Olympics, following Teofilo Yldefonso (bronze in 1928 and bronze in 1932), and Hidilyn Diaz (silver in 2016 and gold in 2020).

Yulo has also secured the Philippines its first two medals in the Paris 2024 games, with two more medals assured to us courtesy of boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio.

Congratulations, our ‘Golden Boy’ Caloy!
